...."music is about as physical as it gets:
your essential rhythm is your heartbeat;
your essential sound, the breath.
We're walking temples of noise,
and when you add tender hearts to this mix,
it somehow lets us meet in places we couldn't get to in any other way."

From Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott

Shayne Flock is our Choral Director. He is a first-year senior in Vocal Performance and Conducting at OSU. He has experience leading church choirs and is currently working as a student assistant with the Sweet Home high school choir. We are excited about his enthusiasm and directing skills.

Shauna Tominey is our Accompanist. She has extensive experience accompanying a variety of choirs, including the Heart of the Valley Choir, Crescent Valley High School Choir, and the University of Washington Choirs. She is an amazing musician!

Our mission is to bring a quality choral experience
to our members and to our community.
We believe that through music we can be the change
we wish to see in our community and the world.

Be the change
you wish to see, wish to be,
in the world.

We are a group of singers who meet once a week at the Unitarian Fellowship to learn how to sing and to spread the joy. You do not have to audition to join in the fun, just come ready to stretch your musical ability. Many of us do not even read music!

Children are welcome to attend with their parents.

Show-up....Warm-up....and Sing!

Calendar - Winter Term - 2010

Monday evenings at 7:00 pm.
Remember... whatever your singing experience,
you are welcome!

Winter Term Begins Jan. 4, 2010

January 4 - Welcome Back. Hope you had a warm and safe holiday. Please check the Notebook to see what you need for Winter Term. Your help in uploading and printing the sheet music is GREATLY appreciated. For tonight you will need: And, The Night Will Be Filled With Music; Ashgrove; Be the Change; Come Spirit, Come; How Can I Keep From Singing; Non Nobis Domine; Ride the Chariot; Weep No More

We had 43 singers show up tonight! That doesn't count the people who stayed home because they were ill and newcomers who will appear next week! Wow!

January 11 - Have ready: And, the Night Will Be Filled; Ashgrove; Be the Change; Calypso Chant; Come Spirit, Come; Non Nobis Domine; Oh, Freedom; Weep No More
Another wonderful turnout.... and such beautiful music! Give an hour of practice this week.

January 18 - Have your music ready for: And the Night Shall Be Filled With Music; Weep No More; Non Nobis Domine; Ashgrove; Bonse Aba; Be the Change
We worked on And the Night Shall Be Filled, Bonse Aba, Non Nobis Domine, and Weep No More. I sometimes listen to the mp3s, kind of in the background. I don't actually sing along, I just let the music find a place to live in my head. It has help me with the tune and the rhythm and timing. See you next week.

January 25 - Tonight we will be working on Weep No More and some of the Fall term repertoir. By now you should have copies of everything in the notebook. Remember, if you do not have access to a printer, let me know by noon on Monday which music you need and I will bring what you need.

We sang Weep No More; The Ashgrove; My Life Flows On; Onata Lux; Ride the Chariot; Be the Change

News from our Haiti Support Drive Leaders:

Our drive to raise money to help earthquake victims will continue through Monday, February 1. If you would like to support this fund but weren't able to attend rehearsal last week or forgot your checkbook, you can still contribute. Please make your check to UUFC and write CCC-Haiti on the memo line. The Unitarian treasurer will send our donation -- in the name of our choir -- to whichever nonprofit our group chooses.

The amazing news: We have already raised $1,350!! Thank you all for you support!

It warms my heart to be involved with such generous people!

February 1 - Great rehearsal tonight. We are beginning to sound like we know what we are doing! We will have a complete tally of the donations for Haiti by next week, but we are over $1400! The money will be sent to Partners In Health. Check them out. They sound wonderful.
Tonight we sang: Come Spirit Come; Bonse Aba; And the Nitght Shall be Filled; Oh Freedom; O Nata Lux; Be the Change.
